Xainte
Xainte is a set of modular coffee tables. We started the conception of this design by researching the misinterpretations of light. The human brain, despite how sophisticated it may be, can still misinterpret the information gathered by the eyes. Optical illusions, as we commonly identify these misreadings, are present in various tricks and attractions. Due to the addition of polarized filters on the pieces, the objects we created can appear opaque or clear when overlaid. Through their use, they change state. Therefore altering their presence within a space.
The effect, often misunderstood at first glance, ignites curiosity. The circular shape of the tables is the result of a study around the optimization of the object and mystification of this very simple effect. The project’s meticulous details, borrowed form artisanal glass vocabulary, wish to add prestige to a material that is often disregarded as low-end. The project does not include any screws or glue. The base and surface of the tables are bonded together using gravity and the tension of the material’s memory.
